Tunisia –The General University of Secondary Education, affiliated with the Tunisian General Labor Union, announced a general strike on April 7, in a new escalation step against the backdrop of tense relations with the Ministry of Education.
The university’s general secretary, Muhammad Al-Safi, explained during a press conference that the strike will include variousEducational institutionsSecondary and preparatory schools, in addition to technical schools in all parts of the country, accompanied by protests in front of the regional delegations for education.
The union official confirmed that this step comes in protest against what he described as the ministry’s failure to adhere to its previous pledges and its refusal to open channels of dialogue, stressing that the goal of the move is not to disrupt the normal functioning of the public facility, but rather to defend professional and social demands that he considers “legitimate,” most important of which is improving financial conditions and responding to previously concluded agreements.
The spokesman indicated that this strike comes as an extension of a series of protests that the sector has waged during the past period, including the February 2025 strike and protests during the summer, hinting at the possibility of continued escalation if the situation continues as it is.
