Gafsa –Protests continued, for the second day in a row, in the Umm al-Arais area of the state of Gafsa, where employees and employees of the Environment and Planting Company blocked the national road linking Umm al-Arays and the city of Gafsa, in protest against the delay in payment of their wages and financial entitlements.
The protesters are demanding that their arrears be paid, in addition to activating the increase approved by the Finance Law, and that their professional and social demands be dealt with seriously, stressing that the delayed payment of wages has exacerbated their daily suffering.
In conjunction with these movements, phosphate production in the city of Metlaoui continues to stop, after work was stopped by the Environment Company’s workers, while a number of employees went on a hunger strike to pressure their demands to be met.
Yesterday, the protesters escalated their movements by closing various facilities of the Gafsa Phosphate Company, in addition to blocking a number of roads and setting fire to rubber tires, in protest against what they described as the continued ignoring of their demands.
The employees of the Environment and Planting Company are also demanding that they be integrated into the Gafsa Phosphate Company, with the activation of previous agreements that stipulate that they are granted a number of financial gains and rights.
