Rabat –The President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump, affirming his country’s recognition of the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over the Sahara, reiterated Washington’s support for the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco, in a congratulatory telegram he sent to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, on the occasion of the twenty-seventh anniversary of the Glorious Throne Day.
The American President stressed in the cable that “the United States is clear: We recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara, and we support the Moroccan proposal for serious, credible, and realistic autonomy as the only basis for reaching a just and lasting solution,” stressing that any other path would prolong the conflict, and affirming that the United States will continue to push for progress to end this issue.
Trump expressed his congratulations to His Majesty the King and the Moroccan people, noting that the two countries are celebrating this year the 250th anniversary of Moroccan-American relations, which he described as being based on trust and mutual respect.
Regarding the security aspect, the US President praised the role played by Morocco under the leadership of His Majesty the King in establishing stability, combating extremism, and enhancing regional security, especially through its contribution to the Abraham Accords, stressing Washington’s commitment to continuing to work with Rabat to enhance the security of the Sahel region.
The cable also highlighted the importance of the economic partnership between the two countries, as Trump confirmed that he assigned his work teams to enhance economic and social cooperation with Morocco, including in the southern provinces, while expanding the partnership in strategic sectors including energy, artificial intelligence, rare metals, and defense.
The American President concluded his telegram by emphasizing his aspiration to build a new phase of cooperation between Rabat and Washington, in a way that serves the interests of the two peoples and enhances the strategic partnership between the two countries.
