The United States focuses on oil and security in Libya amid the faltering political solution

Observers and experts on the Libyan issue believe that the American approach towards Libya is witnessing a noticeable shift, based mainly on managing economic and security files, most notably oil investments, instead of pushing towards a comprehensive political solution that will end the existing state of division.

This trend comes in the wake of the signing of agreements between the United States and the National Unity Government headed byAbdul Hamid Al-DabaibaIt included areas related to the oil sector, in addition to focusing on maintaining a minimum level of security stability.

This path sparked internal controversy, coinciding with the visit of the US President’s envoy for Middle East and African affairsMusad BoulosTo Libya, where he discussed security and economic files in a country that is still suffering from ongoing political stagnation.

The visit came on the sidelines of an energy summit hosted by the capital, Tripoli, and before the launch of military maneuvers in which forces from eastern and western Libya are expected to participate, with American coordination, in a move that observers considered an indication of the priority of the security approach at the current stage.

In the same context, the American movement coincides with efforts led byUnited Nations Support Mission in LibyaTo relaunch the path of political dialogue between the Libyan parties, but these efforts, according to observers, do not receive much optimism in light of the complexities of the internal scene.

Political analysts believe that Washington is now dealing with the Libyan file with the logic of managing balances and controlling stability, rather than seeking to impose a comprehensive political settlement, considering that ensuring the continuation of oil production and securing vital facilities constitutes a priority that outweighs the issue of elections or the reunification of institutions.

They point out that Libya is currently being managed as an economic and security issue, where oil is seen as a strategic tool for organizing the conflict and avoiding its explosion, while waiting for more appropriate regional and international conditions to discuss a comprehensive political solution that will end the state of division.
