Tunisia –The Tunisian Embassy in the State of Qatar announced, on Tuesday, the temporary suspension of its work, starting from Wednesday and until further notice, against the backdrop of rapid security developments in the region.
The Tunisian embassy in Qatar explained in an official statement that the decision comes “in light of security developments in the region, and based on the directives of the Qatari authorities on the need to exercise caution,” without specifying a time frame for the resumption of consular activity.
Continuing regional escalation
This decision comes in the context of escalating military tensions following the outbreak of confrontations between Israel and the United States on the one hand, and Iran on the other, as the two sides exchanged military strikes since dawn on Saturday.
According to circulating data, the escalation resulted in hundreds of deaths inside Iran, including prominent military and security figures, while Tehran continues to respond by launching missiles and drones towards targets it describes as “American interests” in the region, in addition to attacks towards Israel.
Gulf countries under the impact of attacks
Several Arab countries, including Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Bahrain, the Sultanate of Oman, Jordan and Iraq, witnessed security tensions in light of the attacks for which Iran claimed responsibility, confirming that they targeted sites linked to the United States.
On the other hand, the Gulf Cooperation Council condemned what it described as attacks that targeted civilian objects, calling for an end to the escalation and the preservation of stability in the region.
The Tunisian embassy’s decision to suspend its work reflects the state of anxiety prevailing over a number of diplomatic missions in the region, in light of the continuing military escalation and increasing fears of the expansion of the confrontation.
