Nabatieh –Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam confirmed, on Wednesday, that Beirut will continue its political and diplomatic efforts to ensure complete Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, during his visit to the western town of Zawtar, the day after the Lebanese army deployed there as part of the implementation of the framework agreement concluded under American sponsorship.
Salam planted the Lebanese flag in the town square, stressing that this step represents an important national milestone and the beginning of a new phase to restore sovereignty over the southern lands, stressing that the government “will continue to mobilize all political and diplomatic efforts to secure complete withdrawal from all Lebanese lands.”
He added that the government, in parallel with the completion of the deployment of the Lebanese army, will work to open roads, remove rubble, and restore basic services, allowing residents to return to their homes and villages in safe conditions.

I would like to address all Lebanese, especially our people in the south, from the western town of Zawtar. This is a national moment that carries great political and moral dimensions, because it represents the beginning of the Israeli withdrawal from our land.

Salam’s statements come a day after Lebanese President Joseph Aoun confirmed, during his meeting with his American counterpart Donald Trump at the White House, that a complete Israeli withdrawal represents a priority to consolidate stability and enable the Lebanese state to extend its sovereignty over its entire territory.
On Tuesday, the Lebanese Army began deploying in the western town of Zawtar as one of the “experimental areas” stipulated in the framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel, while the Lebanese Army announced that its members were exposed to fire from the Israeli side while carrying out the mission, while the Israeli Army explained that its forces fired warning shots after Lebanese soldiers entered an area outside the scope of the area specified in the agreement.
The agreement stipulates that the Lebanese army will secure the areas from which the Israeli army withdraws, while restricting weapons to the state and preventing any military presence outside official institutions, in preparation for the completion of the gradual Israeli withdrawal from the rest of the border areas.
