Official sources learned that the Senegalese Prime Minister,Ousmane SonkoOn Monday, he is expected to make an official visit toMoroccoWithin the framework of the fifteenth session of the Higher Committee for Partnership between Rabat and Senegal.
A source from the Senegalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in a statement to Agence France-Presse, that this visit falls within the bilateral dynamic aimed at strengthening political and economic cooperation between the two countries, far from any circumstantial context.
This visit comes at a time when social media platforms witnessed tension between some football fans in the two countries, against the backdrop of events that accompanied the final match of the African Cup of Nations, which brought together the Moroccan and Senegalese teams in Rabat, and ended with the victory of the “Lions of Teranga” team with a goal to no return.
During the last minutes of the match’s regular time, the stadium witnessed a state of confusion, after about a thousand Senegalese fans tried to enter the stadium, which led to the match being stopped for about a quarter of an hour, before security personnel and organizers were able to restore order.
Shortly before that, the Senegalese national team players, accompanied by their coach, left the field in protest against the awarding of a penalty kick to the Moroccan national team in the final seconds of stoppage time, before they later returned to complete the confrontation, which was decided in two extra halves in favor of the Senegalese national team.
In a related context, the Moroccan judicial authorities are pursuing 18 Senegalese fans in connection with these events, as their trial sessions are expected to continue on January 29, according to available data.
It is noteworthy that Moroccan-Senegalese relations are described as strong and built on a multi-dimensional strategic partnership, which is reflected in the periodic high-level meetings and official visits exchanged between officials of the two countries.
