Nouakchott –The activities of the third session of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Scholars competition for African-Islamic heritage manuscripts and documents were concluded yesterday, Tuesday, in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, at the level of the Foundation’s branch in Mauritania, with the participation of scientific works representing various areas of Islamic heritage.
The Secretary-General of the Mauritanian Ministry of Culture, Sidi Mohamed Djedou Khatri, confirmed that this competition represents a pioneering scientific initiative that reflects the importance of written heritage in preserving cultural memory and enhancing cultural and scientific cooperation between African countries, pointing to the Mauritanian government’s interest in protecting tangible and intangible heritage and integrating it into cultural policies.
The Mauritanian official praised the role played byMohammed VI Foundation of African OulemaIn preserving the Islamic heritage and consolidating the values of brotherhood, unity and integration among the peoples of the African continent.
For his part, the representative of the Foundation in Mauritania, Boun Omar Lee, highlighted that the third session witnessed distinguished participation, and falls within the Foundation’s efforts aimed at preserving the African manuscript heritage, encouraging scientific research, and introducing the scientific wealth that African countries abound, praising the level of cooperation with the Foundation’s branch in Mauritania.
The head of the competition’s technical committee, Al-Mukhtar Al-Saad, explained that the committee received 14 manuscripts in the fields of faith, hadith, interpretation, biography, jurisprudence, its origins and language, in addition to three Qur’ans and a number of historical documents, noting that the evaluation of the entries was carried out according to scientific and artistic standards that take into account the originality of the manuscript, its scientific value, the integrity of its text and its material condition, before selecting the works that will represent Mauritania in the final stage of the competition.
