Nouakchott –The National Gendarmerie Division specializing in housing and urban development in Mauritania announced the dismantling of a network active in forging real estate documents and illegal trade in land plots, following field investigations that resulted in the arrest of a number of suspects and the seizure of forged documents that were used in real estate fraud operations.
The National Gendarmerie explained, in a statement, that the operation enabled the seizure of dozens of forged documents, including title deeds, sales contracts, and possession licenses, which were being used to falsify real estate transactions and encourage unlicensed construction, in addition to hiding documents related to these activities.
The same source confirmed that this operation came after in-depth research and investigations led by the gendarmerie team specialized in housing and urbanization, as part of efforts aimed at combating crimes targeting real estate properties and enhancing legal security for citizens.
The Gendarmerie indicated that these interventions fall within an ongoing strategy to combat counterfeiting and fraudulent networks, and protect property rights, while continuing investigations to uncover all those involved and take the necessary legal measures against them.
It is noteworthy that the gendarmerie squad specialized in housing and urbanization is led by First Assistant Aisha Bint Sidi Mohammed, who is the first woman to command a squad in the Mauritanian National Gendarmerie.
