Libya.. Al-Feel field production stopped and there were warnings of widespread darkness after the closure of the Mellitah complex

Tripoli –The National Oil Corporation in Libya announced, on Tuesday, a complete cessation of production in the El Feel oil field, with a partial cessation of production in the Al Wafa field, following the closure of the Mellitah Oil and Gas Industrial Complex by protesters, warning of serious repercussions that may affect electricity supplies in various parts of the country.

The corporation explained, in an official statement, that the storming and closure of the Mellitah complex led to the disruption of operational operations and natural gas supplies, as the complex is the main source of gas feeding the coastline and electricity production stations.

She confirmed that the severe shortage of gas and fuel supplies had already caused a number of electricity generation units to go out of service, warning that the continuation of the situation may lead to instability of the electrical network and a high possibility of widespread outages, which could lead to a general blackout if operations are not resumed urgently.

The National Oil Corporation called on the competent authorities to intervene immediately to secure the Mellitah complex and oil facilities, and to enable technical teams to resume work in safe conditions, ensuring the restoration of gas production and the stability of basic services, especially electricity.

It also appealed to all parties to neutralize the oil and gas sector from any tensions, stressing that it reserves the right to declare a state of force majeure in the event that it remains impossible to resume operational operations.

On the other hand, the National Unity Government announced that the competent authorities were able to secure the Mellitah complex, confirming the resumption of pumping gas to the power generation stations and working to restore the stability of supplies.
