Tripoli –A number of Moroccans residing in Libya are facing increasingly difficult living conditions, in light of a continuing wave of high prices and the rising costs of daily life, which has prompted many of them to consider leaving the country and returning to Morocco.
Moroccans residing in Libya confirmed that the decline in the value of the local currency and the rise in the dollar exchange rate in recent years had a direct impact on the prices of basic materials and services, which greatly affected the purchasing power of families and foreigners residing there.
Mohamed Djaglaf, a Moroccan residing in Libya, explained that the costs of settling residency and administrative procedures have also witnessed a significant increase, in addition to the imposition of fees and financial fines, which he described as “high,” which has increased the amount of pressure facing the Moroccan community.
The spokesman added that a number of young Moroccans who were working or living alone chose to leave Libya during the recent period due to the difficult economic conditions, while others continue to search for solutions to reduce the burden of living.
As Eid al-Adha approaches, the suffering of a number of Moroccan families increases due to the significant increase in the prices of sacrifices, as the price of a regular sacrifice exceeds 2,000 Libyan dinars, which is considered a high amount compared to the level of local income.
The spokesman pointed out that some families were forced to share the costs of the sacrifice among themselves, while other families preferred not to purchase it this year due to the difficult economic circumstances.
These data reflect the extent of the social and economic challenges facing members of the Moroccan community in Libya, in light of the continued rise in prices and the increasing cost of living.
