According to a media report, cooperation between Ankara and the Libyan General Command is no longer limited to political meetings, but has extended to the areas of military training, exchange of experiences and technical cooperation, while official Turkish and Libyan statements talk about strengthening the partnership in the defense fields without announcing new military agreements or establishing permanent bases.
Sources cited in the report reported that Turkish officials and representatives of the General Command discussed programs to develop some military facilities and monitoring and control systems, in addition to training Libyan officers inside Turkey, but this information was not confirmed by official authorities.
Experts believe that this rapprochement reflects a repositioning of Turkish policy towards Libya, as Ankara seeks to expand its relations with various centers of Libyan influence, in a way that preserves its political and economic interests in any future settlement.

The report also indicated that some analysts link the Turkish openness to Ankara’s desire to enhance the chances of ratifying the maritime border demarcation agreement signed with the previous Libyan Government of National Accord, by expanding communication with influential parties in eastern Libya, which is information that has not been confirmed by the Turkish or Libyan authorities.
