Resuming commercial traffic between Tunisia and Libya after a 7-month interruption

Clashes between armed militias in Libya caused a decline in the movement of goods between the two countries during the recent period.

The Ras Jedir Port Security Directorate issued a notification about the opening of the commercial crossing, based on instructions from the Libyan Minister of Interior, Imad Trabelsi.

The arrangements include reorganizing work at the crossing and enhancing cooperation with Tunisia to facilitate movement and transport of goods between the two countries.

Transit movement through the crossing, starting at seven in the morning, will be limited to emergency cases and ambulances only.

The land crossing was closed on March 19 due to clashes between armed groups and Libyan security forces, and was reopened for travelers.

The cessation of trade led to a decline in Tunisian exports to Libya by 30 percent, according to statistics from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Libya ranks first among Arab and African countries in trade exchange with Tunisia, with a value of 2.7 billion dinars.
