Nouakchott –On Friday evening, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani assigned the resigned Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Ajay to form a new government, following the resignation of his government earlier the same day, after the presidency received the report of the independent investigation committee regarding the two fires that targeted two electrical transmission stations in the capital, Nouakchott, last August.
The investigation relates to the circumstances of the two fires that affected the electrical transmission stations in Nouakchott North and Nouakchott West, and coincided with disturbances in the electricity supply in the capital, according to the data received regarding the case.
Ould Ajay had announced, after submitting his government’s resignation, that he took responsibility for any shortcomings in the performance of the government team, expressing his wishes for good luck and success for the new government.
The resignation came more than two years after the formation of the government, making it the fifth since Ould Cheikh Ghazouani came to power in 2019, and the first during his second presidential term.
The initial announcement of the resignation did not include an explanation of its reasons, while no details were announced regarding the results of the investigation committee’s report or the extent of its direct connection to the government change.
