This move came after video clips were circulated on social media documenting that individuals who were chanting slogans referring to their Algerian origins tore down the Moroccan flag, burned it, and desecrated it publicly in theneighborhood. “Why Cater Showman”In the municipality of Aubervilliers, on the outskirts of Paris, in scenes that sparked widespread dissatisfaction within the Moroccan community.
Other recordings showed that Moroccan women, who were wearing the Moroccan national team jersey and accompanied by children, were subjected to verbal attacks and attempts at intimidation by the same people, as documented by the circulating videos.
In an official statement, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in France condemned what it described as “the dangerous and unacceptable events” that took place in the neighborhood on the evening of July 4, 2026, stressing that the desecration of the national flag represents a violation of one of the symbols of sovereignty and national unity, and cannot be justified in any way.
The embassy confirmed that it notified the competent French authorities immediately after the events occurred, and also filed an official complaint with the aim of following up on those involved and holding them accountable in accordance with applicable French laws.
The statement stated that these actions “deeply touch the feelings of Moroccan citizens residing in France, Moroccans with French nationality, and all those who adhere to the values of respect, dignity and coexistence,” considering that what happened reflects “a deliberate desire to provoke, incite hatred, and disrupt public order.”
The embassy added that other video clips documented that women wearing the Moroccan national football team shirt, accompanied by young children, were subjected to verbal attacks and attempts at intimidation by the same people, stressing that these incidents were included in the complaint submitted to the French authorities.
On the other hand, the Moroccan diplomatic mission expressed its thanks to the French authorities, the security services and the municipality of Aubervilliers, praising their quick reaction and mobilization following the incident.
The embassy also praised the high sense of responsibility demonstrated by members of the Moroccan community residing in France, who dealt with these provocations with restraint and respect for the law, stressing that sports celebrations should remain an occasion for joy, rapprochement and mutual respect, and not turn into an excuse for violence, hatred, or insulting symbols of countries and communities.
These developments come at a time when the French authorities continue to consider the submitted complaint, awaiting the outcome of the judicial procedures against persons suspected of involvement in these acts.
