Valencia –The Spanish authorities arrested a 26-year-old Algerian citizen on suspicion of his involvement in a violent physical assault on a Spanish man in his forties, in an area near the city of Valencia, in an incident that sparked widespread interaction on social media platforms after the spread of a video documenting the incident.
The circulated footage showed the suspect assaulting the victim after he dropped him to the ground, directing several blows and kicks at him, before continuing to assault him, which led to him being seriously injured and requiring his transfer to the hospital in critical condition, according to what was reported by Spanish media.
According to preliminary data circulating, the victim, who is 46 years old, has no previous relationship with the suspect, while the true motives for the attack are still under investigation by the competent authorities.
The same sources reported that the security authorities were able to arrest the suspect shortly after the incident, while the judicial authority decided to place him in pretrial detention until investigations were completed and all circumstances of the case were determined.
The incident sparked a widespread wave of condemnation within Spain, especially after the video was widely circulated, amid calls to enforce the law and hold those responsible for the attack accountable, awaiting the results of the official investigations.
