Algeria –Getting readyNational People’s AssemblyInAlgeriaTo hold its first session on July 28, marking the launch of the new legislative term, after the Constitutional Court announced the final results of the legislative elections, amid ongoing consultations between the majority parties regarding the selection of the President of the Council.
The procedures for opening the parliamentary term will begin in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, where the first session will be held under the chairmanship of the oldest representative and with the assistance of the two youngest representatives, provided that a temporary body will supervise the confirmation of membership of the elected representatives and the opening of the new session.
Before the inauguration session, the Council scheduled July 26 and 27 to complete the registration procedures for elected representatives inside and outside the country, in preparation for the start of parliamentary work.
It is expected that the representatives will elect, on the day following the inauguration session, the President of the National People’s Assembly, before completing the election of the vice-presidents, heads of the permanent committees, and members of the Council’s bureau, allowing the institution’s legislative and oversight tasks to begin.
Attention is turning to the identity of the new president of the Council, as consultations continue within the majority camp. Several names are circulating in political circles, includingAtallah, Your Majesty and Munther BudhanWhile political sources do not rule out agreement on a personality that is accepted by the various components of the majority in order to avoid resorting to competitive voting.
The results of the recent elections give the loyalist parties a clear advantage in deciding the presidency of the Council, after they toppedNational Liberation Front results with 91 seats, followed by the National Democratic Rally with74 seatsA, then the future frontWith 56 seats,The National Construction Movement has 40 seats, along with other blocs supporting the government.
