NouakchottToday, Tuesday, the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, hosted the launch of the African Forum on Electricity and Renewable Energy, with the participation of experts, investors and decision-makers representing 12 African countries, with the aim of discussing investment opportunities and enhancing regional cooperation in the energy sector.
The Mauritanian Minister of Energy and Oil, Mohamed Ould Khaled, opened the forum’s activities, stressing that organizing this event is consistent with the government’s directions aimed at enhancing the private sector’s contribution to development, reviewing programs to expand access to electricity and developing renewable energy projects, in a way that creates an attractive environment for investment and partnerships.
The Minister explained that the forum witnessed the signing of a partnership agreement between Mauritania and Morocco, noting the importance of electricity production projects according to the Independent Producer (IPP) system, in addition to the“Sahara Energy”and “Mission 300,” which aim to expand access to electricity on the African continent, calling for investing in the potential that Mauritania abounds in the fields of solar energy, wind, gas, and green hydrogen.
For his part, the Moroccan ambassador to Mauritania confirmed,Hamid ShabarThe two countries possess qualifications that qualify them to play a pivotal role in the field of renewable energies at the regional level, while the President of the Mauritanian Confederation of Energy and Electricity, Hattar Kouar, considered that projects to establish electrical stations according to the independent producer system represent an important step towards reforming the energy sector.
The forum witnessed the signing of a strategic partnership agreement betweenMauritanian and Moroccan federationsfor electricity, in addition to organizing discussion sessions and artistic performances that dealt with the Mauritanian Energy Charter, and the 225 kilovolt electrical interconnection project with Mali, as well as reviewing the Moroccan experience in electrifying the rural world.
The demonstration also included bilateral business meetings that brought together a Moroccan delegation including 26 private companies with Mauritanian actors, to discuss investment opportunities and launch new projects to develop energy infrastructure and create job opportunities, especially in rural areas.
