Libya is considering joining the BRICS group to enhance economic cooperation

The Libyan Foreign Minister, Abdul Hadi Al-Hawaij, announced that the government is seriously studying the possibility of joining the BRICS group, considering that this step represents a strategic step towards strengthening economic relations with developing countries and ensuring sustainable development in Libya.

In a statement to the Russian “Novosti” agency, Al-Hawaij pointed to the importance of the BRICS group as an influential economic platform, as he said: “I am among those who support Libya’s accession to this group.”

He added: “The government has taken concrete steps in this direction, including preparing a set of studies related to accession. However, making such decisions requires careful research with various political circles.”

Al-Hawaij stressed that the government will continue to work on this issue, expressing his hope that Libya will be able to join BRICS, or at least be part of it as an observer in the first stage.

It should be noted that the “BRICS” group was established in 2006 and currently includes 10 countries: Russia, Brazil, India, China, South Africa, in addition to Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.
