Increasing international pressure on Polisario… Algeria tightens restrictions on the Front’s movements near the security wall

Algeria –Identical media reports revealed that the Algerian military authorities have begun to impose strict field measures on the movements of members of the Polisario Front, especially in areas close to the security wall within the buffer zone, in a regional context characterized by escalating international warnings of any new military tension in the region.

According to circulating data, these measures aim to limit armed movements that may lead to unaccounted field developments, amid fears of a return to military escalation and the security and political repercussions that may result from it.

This development comes after a wave of international positions criticizing the attacks that targeted the city of Smara, which were considered by several capitals to be a dangerous transgression that threatens the security of civilians and undermines international pacification efforts.

In this context, the United States’ position emerged calling for avoiding any military movements that would complicate the path of the political settlement, while emphasizing the need to respect the ceasefire and support the political solution under the supervision of the United Nations.

The United Nations mission, MINURSO, also continues to closely follow field developments, in light of repeated international calls for restraint and the primacy of dialogue to avoid any new security slide in the region.

Observers believe that the tightening restrictions on the Front’s movements reflects the increasing amount of diplomatic pressure related to the Sahara issue, at a time when international movements aimed at establishing stability and advancing the political course of the conflict continue.
