Zurich –The Moroccan national football team achieved a new historic achievement after it rose to sixth place in the world in the monthly rankings issued by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), today, Monday, following its distinguished participation in the 2026 World Cup finals.
This position is the best classification in the history of the “Atlas Lions” since the adoption of the “FIFA” classification in 1993, after the national team was ranked seventh in the classification last June, thus continuing its progress among the world’s top teams.
Morocco’s rise came after reaching the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, where it raised its score to 1,803.99 points, achieving an increase of 48.89 points compared to the previous classification, making it only less than one point away from Brazil, which is in fifth place.
In the new classification, the Moroccan team outperformed prominent European and international teams, most notably Portugal, which fell to seventh place, then Belgium in eighth place, the Netherlands in ninth place, while Mexico came in tenth place.
At the top level, the Spanish national team took first place in the world after winning the 2026 World Cup, ahead of the Argentine national team, which fell to second place, while the French and England national teams maintained third and fourth places, respectively.
In Africa, the Moroccan national team continued its dominance at the top of the continent, ahead of Senegal, which ranked eighteenth in the world, then Egypt in twenty-fourth place, and Nigeria in twenty-sixth place, while Algeria came in twenty-ninth place.
The rankings also witnessed the Norwegian national team achieving the largest jump by rising 12 places, while Tunisia was the largest decliner after losing 12 places, while the Spanish national team recorded the largest gain in points, compared to the largest loss for the Panama national team.
