Algeria – The Algerian authorities announced, yesterday, Sunday, the dismantling of criminal networks active in drug smuggling across the border, in separate security operations that resulted in the arrest of 19 people and the seizure of more than 7 quintals of processed kif, in data that highlights the continued activity of drug trafficking networks despite the ongoing security campaigns.
According to a statement by the People’s National Army, the National Gendarmerie units in the Algiers Province of the First Military Region and the Tlemcen Province of the Second Military Region were able to arrest 17 people suspected of involvement in drug trafficking, with the seizure of 6 quintals and 35 kilograms of processed kif, 1,350 hallucinogenic tablets, in addition to five utility vehicles and a motorcycle.
In another operation, the People’s National Army detachments in the military sector of Ouargla, affiliated with the 4th Military Region, arrested two other people, and seized one quintal of processed kif, a utility vehicle, and a sum of money suspected of being the proceeds of this activity.
These large seizures highlight the continued activity of cross-border drug smuggling networks, despite repeated security operations, which reflects the magnitude of the challenges posed by these networks and their ability to attempt to pass large quantities of drugs
