Nouakchott –On Thursday evening, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, commemorated the twenty-seventh anniversary of the accession of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the throne of the Kingdom, through an official ceremony hosted by the ambassador’s residence, in the presence of high-level Mauritanian officials, members of the diplomatic corps, political, economic, cultural and media figures, as well as members of the Moroccan community.
In a speech on the occasion, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar, stressed that the celebration of Throne Day represents a national milestone during which Moroccans remember a process full of achievements and progress, and it also embodies the depth of the historical connection between the Moroccan people and the glorious Alawite throne.
The ambassador explained that the Kingdom, over more than a quarter of a century under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has achieved important gains in the fields of economic, social, scientific, cultural and sports development, in parallel with continuing to strengthen the Kingdom’s territorial integrity and consolidating its presence at the regional and international levels.
Hamid Chabar pointed out that Moroccan diplomacy has achieved important gains in recent years, highlighting that the UN resolution issued in 2025 strengthened, in his words, the Moroccan position on the Sahara issue.
The ambassador also reviewed the Kingdom’s most prominent economic indicators, explaining that Morocco has become one of the most prominent African countries in the industrial field, and leads the continent in the manufacture and export of cars, in addition to the development of the aircraft parts manufacturing sector, while industrial exports during the year 2025 amounted to about 40 percent of total Moroccan exports.
In the tourism sector, he confirmed that Morocco received nearly 20 million tourists during the year 2025, achieving a growth of 14 percent compared to the previous year. He also highlighted that the Kingdom’s hosting of the 2030 World Cup, in partnership with Spain and Portugal, reflects the position that Morocco now occupies on the international sports scene.
The Moroccan ambassador stressed the strength of Moroccan-Mauritanian relations, describing them as fraternal relations based on ties of religion, language, history and common destiny, and strengthened by a common will to develop bilateral cooperation and build a strategic partnership that serves the interests of both countries.
The ceremony included a documentary exhibition that reviewed the history of the Alawite state, through pictures of the sultans and kings of the Kingdom of Morocco, in addition to artistic performances that celebrated the Moroccan cultural heritage.
This occasion was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, Mohamed Salem Ould Marzouk, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Yacoub Ould Amine, and the Minister of Trade and Tourism, Zineb Ahmadnah, in addition to a number of officials, ambassadors, parliamentarians, academics, media figures, and members of the Moroccan community residing in Mauritania.
