Eastern Libya – witnessed large areas of easternLibyaDuring the early hours of Wednesday morning, a strong dust storm caused a significant decrease in visibility, amid unusual scenes in which dense dust covered cities and roads, turning the color of the sky into dark red shades.
Video clips circulated on social media platforms showed a heavy spread of dust, which directly affected traffic and transportation, and raised concerns about public safety, especially among road users and people suffering from respiratory diseases.
According to weather observers, the storm was caused by strong dust-laden winds coming from desert areas, in light of the state of air instability that the region is witnessing during this period, which contributed to the widening of the impact and the intensification of the phenomenon.
In this context, local authorities called on residents to exercise caution and avoid movement except when absolutely necessary, while adhering to preventive measures, to avoid any potential risks that may result from low visibility or deteriorating air quality.
Dust storms are a recurring phenomenon in Libya, but the strength of this storm and the breadth of its geographical scope have made it a subject of follow-up and attention, awaiting the issuance of official data on developments in the weather situation during the coming hours, and whether it has caused material damage or additional impacts on daily life.
