The Libyan authorities announced that they intercepted approximately 113 illegal immigrants over a period of three continuous days near the Libyan coast, in addition to three bodies recovered of immigrants who died during that period.
Yesterday, Monday, July 7, the Libyan Ministry of the Interior issued a statement explaining the intervention of the security team of the General Administration of Coastal Security with 54 migrants near the coast of the Garapoli region, which is about 50 kilometers east of the capital, Tripoli.
The ministry added in the statement that on Sunday, 20 migrants of different nationalities were rescued near the coast of the Zawiya area, 45 kilometers west of the capital.
The Ministry indicated simultaneous search and inspection operations that resulted in the recovery of 3 bodies on the coast of the city of Misrata yesterday, Monday, of African migrants. The Ministry confirmed that maritime patrol efforts will be intensified during the summer, in addition to intercepting 39 other migrants near the eastern coast of Tripoli on Saturday evening.
According to statements by the International Organization for Migration, the coast of Libya has recently witnessed many cases of drowning, and in mid-June, more than 60 migrants were killed, including women and children, after two boats sank off the coast of Libya.
The organization explained that since the beginning of the year 2025, more than 743 bodies have been recovered while trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea, including 538 cases in the central Mediterranean, which is known to be the most dangerous migration route due to the escalation of trafficking networks and weak rescue capabilities, in addition to the increasing restrictions on humanitarian operations.
The organization concluded that during the year 2025, approximately 11,526 people were returned, including 1,058 women and 382 children.
