Tunisia –The Tunisian Football Federation announced the appointment of French coach Hervé Renard as technical director of the national team, “Eagles of Carthage,” on a temporary basis until the end of the team’s participation in the 2026 World Cup, following the heavy defeat against the Swedish national team by five goals to one in the opening round.
This decision comes after a disastrous start for the Tunisian team in the World Cup, where the loss to Sweden left a great shock within the sporting circles, due to the broad result and the performance that was considered below par, especially on the defensive level after conceding five full goals.
The Tunisian Federation stated in an official statement that the separation from former coach Sabri Lamouchi came immediately after this result, with Hervé Renard taking over the job immediately, starting on Tuesday, while maintaining the same conditions and financial benefits previously agreed upon.
The communication added that the two parties will return to the negotiating table after the end of the World Cup, in order to discuss the possibility of signing a long-term contract linked to specific sporting goals.
Renard is considered one of the most prominent coaches with experience in world championships, as he previously led the Moroccan national team in the 2018 World Cup, and the Saudi national team in the 2022 World Cup, which is what the Tunisian Federation is counting on in order to improve the team’s results and save what can be saved in the rest of its journey in the tournament.
