Civil protection services in Algeria recorded a heavy toll of traffic accidents within 24 hours, amounting to 303 injuries and 8 deaths across the various states of the country, at a time when Oran and Annaba witnessed separate accidents that resulted in 24 people being injured.
In Oran, a utility vehicle swerved and overturned on State Road No. 44 in the municipality of Mers el-Kébir, injuring 11 people, between the ages of 8 and 50, and civil protection intervened to rescue them and take them to the hospital.
In Annaba, 13 people were injured when a minibus carrying about 30 passengers deviated on National Road No. 44, before the injured were transferred to the local hospital institution to receive treatment.
These repeated incidents, according to official data, reveal the continued fragility of road safety, despite the rapid intervention operations carried out by civil protection, which amounted to 4,093 interventions in just one day.
These numbers reopen the debate about the effectiveness of traffic prevention measures, in light of the recurrence of accidents in similar circumstances, and renewed calls to enhance monitoring and reduce dangerous behavior on the roads
