expressedUnited Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL)Expressed its welcome to the various mediation initiatives led by Libyan parties to address the existing dispute over the constitutional judiciary, including the proposal to create a mediation committee that includes Libyan legal experts.
The mission explained, in a statement issued yesterday, that the proposed mediation committee aims to develop alternatives that guarantee the continuation of constitutional oversight, while preserving the pivotal position of the judiciary as one of the pillars of the state, stressing at the same time the necessity of adopting legal solutions that preserve the independence and unity of the judiciary.
UNSMIL confirmed its readiness to accompany the work of the mediation committee and provide the necessary support for its efforts, with the aim of reaching a consensual settlement of the existing dispute, in a way that serves the stability of the judicial institutions in the country.
The mission also stressed that this initiative represents an important step to preserve the unity of the judiciary and ensure the harmony of judicial rulings and practices across various regions, considering that this is directly reflected in all aspects of public life inLibya.
In the same context, the UN mission called on all concerned parties to engage positively and cooperate with the mediation committee, in a way that contributes to the success of its course and the achievement of its desired goals.
