The Society for the Protection of Animals files a complaint against YouTuber Ayoub Bin Nasnis after a video that sparked widespread controversy on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.

Rabat –The Social Organization for the Protection of Animals announced that it had filed a complaint with the Court of First Instance in Temara against YouTuber Ayoub Ben Nesnes, against the backdrop of his publishing a video clip that sparked widespread controversy on social networking sites, in which he appeared cutting up and cooking a dog, presenting it as an “Eid al-Adha sacrifice.”

The association said, in a statement, that its recourse to the judiciary was due to what it considered “a disdain for Moroccan and international laws related to the protection of animals,” in addition to the published content’s violation of the values associated with the Eid al-Adha ritual.

The organization added that the circulating clip may be understood as encouraging the slaughter and consumption of dogs, calling on the relevant judicial and security authorities to open an investigation into the incident and take the necessary measures given the nature of the circulating acts.

The association confirmed that it will follow up on the file until the final judicial decision is issued, expressing its hope that legal follow-up will contribute to reducing the recurrence of such behavior in the future.

During the past few days, social media sites witnessed a wide wave of interaction after the aforementioned video spread, before its owner deleted it from his channel on the YouTube platform.

In a new video recording that he later published, Ayoub Bin Nasnis explained that he found the dog dead before filming the clip, implicitly denying some of the accusations that were circulated regarding the incident, awaiting the outcome of the judicial procedures and possible investigations into the file.

This issue brings back to the forefront the debate about the limits of content published on digital platforms, and the extent to which it respects the laws regulating the protection of animals and the ethical standards associated with publishing via social media.
