The Libyan Oil Corporation announced today, Wednesday, the resumption of oil production in the Mabrouk field, located in the Sirte Oil Basin region, after a ten-year hiatus, since 2015.
The corporation explained in an official statement that production resumed on March 9, 2025, at a rate of 5,000 barrels per day, with a plan to increase production to 7,000 barrels per day by the end of this month. The corporation also stated that export operations to Al-Bahi field began on March 11, 2025, with expectations to increase production to 25,000 barrels per day by July 2025.
The Mabrouk oil field, located in concession (C17) 140 km southwest of the port of Sidra, suffered major damage as a result of a terrorist attack in 2015, as most of its vital facilities were destroyed and the field incurred losses estimated at $575 million. Before the attack, the field was producing about 34,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
In this context, the Libyan Oil Corporation stressed the importance of continuing to develop production processes and working to enhance the sustainability of the work environment in the field.
