During its meeting held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, the Government Council approved a draft decree specifying the conditions and modalities for granting public financial support for nomination lists submitted within the framework of the general elections for members of the House of Representatives by candidates under the age of 35 years.
The Minister Delegate in charge of relations with Parliament, the official spokesman for the government, Mustafa Paytas, explained that this text, which was presented by the Minister of the Interior, aims to frame mechanisms for benefiting from public support directed to this category, whether it concerns independent candidates or members of political parties, at the level of local or regional electoral districts.
This measure comes in the context of a trend that aims to enhance youth participation in political life, and expand the base of representation within elected institutions, by providing more equal conditions for access to electoral competition.
In a related context, Paytas reported that the Government Council also studied Draft Law No. 08.26 amending and completing Law No. 81.00 relating to the establishment of the National Office for Social and Cultural University Works, before the decision on it was postponed to a later government meeting.
This trend reflects a growing interest in involving the youth in the political process, in light of challenges related to renewing the elites and enhancing democratic participation.
