The Foreign Ministry is moving to return Moroccans detained in Libya.. The first batch will arrive soon

Rabat – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad confirmed that it is closely following the conditions of Moroccan citizens arrested in Libya, noting that arrangements for their return to Morocco have begun gradually.

This statement came in a written response to the Ministry to a question submitted by Parliamentarian Mohamed Simo, on behalf of the National Rally of Independents, regarding the status of a number of residents of the city of Ksar El Kebir in Larache Province who are detained by the Libyan authorities.

The Ministry explained that 25 citizens from Al-Qasr Al-Kabir are on a list of 194 Moroccans detained by the Libyan security services, against the backdrop of issues related to irregular migration.

The same source added that the competent departments of the Ministry moved immediately upon learning of the case, as they made contacts with the Libyan Ministry of Interior and the relevant security authorities, in coordination with the Kingdom’s Consulate General in Tripoli, with the aim of improving the conditions of detention of those concerned and working to facilitate their release and return to the country.

The data also indicated that the Libyan authorities expressed their cooperation in this file, confirming their readiness to organize the return of the concerned Moroccan citizens in batches, as the first returns began on March 7.

In the document signed by Minister Nasser Bourita, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the continued mobilization of its diplomatic and consular services to keep pace with the situation of Moroccans around the world and provide them with the necessary support, in line with the High Royal directives aimed at caring for the Moroccan community abroad and responding to their concerns.
