Algeria – My Press
The file of Moroccans expelled from Algeria in 1975 has returned to the forefront, after renewed human rights demands for the necessity of justice for this group and highlighting the repercussions of the collective expulsion that affected thousands of Moroccan families.
According to available data, the “International Gathering in Support of Families of Moroccan Origin Expelled from Algeria – 1975” expressed its criticism of what it described as the continued neglect of this file, considering that the issue falls within the grave violations of human rights, given the accompanying loss of property and the separation of families.
The group indicated, in a statement following a meeting of its executive office, that the collective expulsion file is still being raised at the level of international litigation, especially before bodies and organizations concerned with human rights, as part of efforts aimed at introducing the issue and collecting data related to it.
The meeting also discussed a number of initiatives aimed at documenting this file and enhancing its presence at the international level, through preparing reports and publications, in addition to collecting archives and historical data, part of which was deposited in the National Archives, according to the same source.
In the same context, the importance of developing advocacy work and coordination with institutional actors and civil bodies was emphasized, with the aim of pushing towards addressing this file within the framework of respect for human rights, with reference to the preparation of reports based on international documents and archives.
It is noteworthy that this gathering, which was established in 2021, aims to defend the interests of Moroccans expelled from Algeria, and to demand recognition of what happened in 1975, in addition to seeking to restore rights and property and compensate for damages, according to what its stated goals confirm.
