Tan Tan –The activities of the new edition of the “African Lion 2026” maneuvers, which are the largest multinational military exercise on the African continent, concluded yesterday, Friday, in the Cap Draa region near the city of Tan-Tan, with the participation of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and their American counterpart, in addition to thousands of participants from several countries.
This edition witnessed the implementation of large-scale ground and air maneuvers, which involved defense, attack and counter-attack operations, using advanced military equipment, including Abrams tanks, Apache helicopters, B-52 bombers, in addition to Moroccan F-16 fighters.
The training was also characterized by the integration of modern technologies related to artificial intelligence, anti-drone systems, and attack robots, within the framework of developing operational coordination and raising the readiness of the participating forces to face complex and changing scenarios.
On the humanitarian side, the “African Lion 2026” program organized medical services and initiatives for the benefit of the local population in a number of regions, including Dakhla and Taroudant, in a step that confirms the humanitarian dimension of the maneuvers in addition to its military and strategic objectives.
Moroccan and American military officials confirmed that this version reflects the level of advanced strategic partnership between Rabat and Washington, especially in the areas of military training, defense technology, and field coordination.
The “African Lion 2026” exercises witnessed the participation of more than 5,000 personnel representing about 40 countries, in addition to military observers from 17 countries, where activities were divided between land, air and sea exercises, in addition to exercises related to confronting weapons of mass destruction.
The delivery of a new batch of Apache helicopters to the Royal Armed Forces was a milestone at the end of this session, in an indication of the development of military and technical cooperation between Morocco and the United States of America.
