Occupied CeutaThe repercussions of the wave of irregular migration to the occupied city of Ceuta continue, at a time when the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, holds human smuggling networks responsible for fueling the crossing wave by promoting misleading information, coinciding with a number of Moroccan immigrants beginning to return to the Kingdom after encountering a difficult humanitarian and security reality within the city.
The Spanish Prime Minister confirmed that Madrid, in coordination with the Ceuta authorities, has begun taking legal measures to return people who entered the city irregularly, while strengthening security measures at the imaginary border.
In the same context, Spanish media reported that dozens of Moroccan migrants gathered near the Trajal crossing waiting to return to Morocco, after they encountered a reality different from the image promoted by irregular migration networks.
A number of returnees spoke, in circulated testimonies, about difficult conditions inside the city, which included overcrowding in reception centers, lack of basic services, difficulty obtaining food and water, as well as a state of chaos that accompanied the large influx of migrants.
On the other hand, the crisis is witnessing political dimensions within the European Union, after Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced that she is considering suspending the Schengen Agreement with Spain, while the Italian Ministry of the Interior issued exceptional measures to tighten border controls in the wake of developments in the immigration file.
The Moroccan and Spanish authorities confirm the continuation of security and field coordination to manage this crisis, in conjunction with the operations to return a number of migrants to Morocco, amid increasing calls to confront human smuggling networks and combat misleading information aimed at luring young people into irregular migration.
