Muhammad Al-Manfi: The assassination of Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi affects the path of national reconciliation in Libya

In an official statement issued yesterday, Wednesday, the President of the Presidential Council expressed his deep regret over the killing of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, calling on the various political forces and Libyan actors to control public discourse, reject incitement, and wait for the results of the judicial investigations, so as to miss the opportunity for those seeking to thwart reconciliation efforts.

Al-Manfi confirmed that the Presidential Council will closely follow the investigation, to ensure that the circumstances of the crime are revealed and that those involved do not escape accountability, indicating his understanding of the level of concern that the incident has raised among Libyan public opinion.

He also welcomed the use of technical support and specialized expertise, within a legal framework, in order to enhance the transparency of investigations and accelerate their results, which contributes to consolidating confidence in the judicial and institutional process.

In the same context, the Public Prosecution in Tripoli announced the opening of an official investigation into the killing of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, confirming that the person involved died from gunshot wounds inside his home in the city of Zintan, west of the country. The Public Prosecutor’s Office reported that it sent a team of investigators, accompanied by forensic doctors and experts, to the scene of the accident, and initiated criminal procedures to identify the perpetrators and determine the circumstances of the incident.

For his part, media outlets quoted Saif al-Islam Gaddafi’s lawyer as confirming that the assassination was carried out by an armed group consisting of several people, without revealing their identity.
