RabatMorocco and Mauritania signed, on Tuesday in Rabat, a new executive program in the field of endowments and Islamic affairs extending between 2026 and 2028, with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation in managing religious affairs and exchanging experiences between the two countries.
The executive program was signed by the Moroccan Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Al-Tawfiq, and the Mauritanian Minister of Islamic Affairs and Indigenous Education, Al-Fadil Sidati, following bilateral discussions in Rabat devoted to discussing prospects for developing joint cooperation, strengthening partnership in the fields of Islamic affairs, and exchanging experiences between the two institutions.
The agreement includes cooperation in caring for the Holy Qur’an and its sciences, training imams, scholars and guides, developing the management of mosques, developing endowments and modernizing the mechanisms for investing them, in addition to activating the roles of zakat and enhancing cooperation between scientific institutions in the two countries.
The Moroccan Minister stressed that the program aims to raise cooperation to more advanced and effective levels in managing Islamic affairs, while exchanging experiences and expertise in a way that serves common interests and takes into account the specificity of each country.
For his part, the Mauritanian minister considered that the agreement represented a practical step towards a new phase of institutional cooperation, expressing his country’s aspiration to benefit from the Moroccan experience in the fields of mosque management, training imams, and developing the endowments and zakat systems.
This program comes within the framework of strengthening Moroccan-Mauritanian relations and translating previous understandings between the two countries into practical, implementable projects, in a way that enhances religious and scientific cooperation and serves social and cultural development in the two countries.
