Nouakchott –He witnessed the headquarters ofMauritanian ParliamentYesterday, Wednesday, a protest was organized by a number of representatives, expressing their rejection of the Israeli Knesset’s approval of a law stipulating the execution of Palestinian prisoners, in a move that sparked widespread political and human rights reactions.
Representatives from various political orientations, whether from the majority or the opposition, participated in this protest, raising slogans and banners denouncing this legislation, considering that it constitutes a clear violation of international humanitarian law and a dangerous escalation in dealing with the issue of prisoners.
In this context, the head of the parliamentary team of the Insaf Party, Muhammad Al-Amin Amar, confirmed that this step reflects, in his words, a disregard for human values, indicating that the parliamentary move aims to declare a clear position that rejects this law.
For his part, opposition MP Mohamed El-Amin Sidi Mouloud considered that the adoption of this legislation represents an attack on the rights of Palestinian prisoners, and further complicates the humanitarian conditions related to the Palestinian issue.
In parallel, several Mauritanian parties issued a joint statement expressing their condemnation of the law, calling on the United Nations to intervene, and stressing that this measure contradicts international conventions, especially the Geneva Conventions related to the protection of prisoners.
Earlier this week, the Israeli Knesset approved a draft law stipulating the implementation of the penaltyDeath penaltyHanging Palestinian prisoners, according to procedures that include assigning members of the Prison Service to implement the sentences while maintaining the confidentiality of their identities and granting them legal protection.
