The statement explained that the Ambra camp has been hosting tens of thousands of refugees, most of them from Mali, for about thirty years, and is subject to the supervision of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and a number of international humanitarian organizations, which monitor the security and humanitarian conditions inside the camp on a daily basis.

Mauritania affirmed its adherence to the policy of restraint and direct dialogue with Mali to avoid any escalation, calling on the Malian authorities to ensure accuracy in their official statements and to adopt known diplomatic channels to address common security issues.
The statement also stressed that Mauritania will remain committed to good-neighborly relations and cooperation with Mali, while reserving the right to take the necessary measures to protect its image and sovereignty if necessary.
