On Monday, the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Service in Libya announced the arrest of a drug trafficker in the city of Benghazi, after a raid that witnessed violent resistance from his family members and neighbors.
According to the agency’s statement, the accused was seized in possession of a quantity of hashish, known locally as “Passport,” which included a large piece and two medium-sized pieces prepared for sale.
On the same day, the security services were able to arrest a Libyan and a Sudanese person in possession of six pieces of the same narcotic substance, which is a form of compressed hashish, and is smuggled across the border under the name “Passport” due to its shape resembling a passport and the ease of transporting and concealing it.
These operations come within the framework of the efforts of the Libyan authorities to limit the spread of drugs and combat illicit trafficking in contraband, in light of the growing phenomenon in some areas.
