Rome/Tunisia –The Italian-Tunisian partnership is moving towards a new phase focusing on innovation in the energy sector, startups and smart electrical grids, at a time when Tunisia has been facing recurring challenges linked to power outages in recent days, which reinforces the importance of accelerating the modernization of the energy infrastructure and enhancing the security of supplies.
The Tunisian capital witnessed the second session of thesummit “Terna Innovation”Organized by the Italian company Terna in partnership with the Startup Village, with the participation of government officials, representatives of the energy sector and entrepreneurs from both countries, within the framework of enhancing cooperation in the fields of energy transition and clean technologies.
The summit was opened by Afaf Chachi Tayari, Chief of Staff of the Tunisian Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, and Alessandro Brunas, the Italian Ambassador to Tunisia. Both sides stressed that the initiative represents an opportunity to enhance the exchange of experiences and consolidate Tunisia’s position as a regional center for energy innovation in the Mediterranean region.
This cooperation comes at a time when Tunisia is witnessing sporadic disturbances in the supply of electricity over the past few days, which has brought back to the forefront the need to modernize the electrical networks and enhance their flexibility to face the high demand and technical challenges, in parallel with accelerating the projects of transition towards clean energies.
During the summit, a report was presented “Electricity Grid Innovation in Africa 2026”, prepared by Terna in cooperation with the Mind the Bridge initiative, highlighted the challenges facing electricity networks on the continent, in contrast to the rapid growth of emerging companies capable of developing innovative solutions in the fields of energy storage, network digitization, consumption efficiency, and smart energy management.Five startups, Deep Volt, Ampere Technologies, Orbit, ProVerdi, and Pixii Motors, were also selected to benefit from a specialized support program aimed at developing technological solutions that enhance the flexibility of electrical networks and contribute to the success of the energy transition.
The project also relies on the Terna Innovation Center in Tunisia, which provides training and acceleration programs for emerging companies working in the fields of energy and digital technology, with the aim of preparing competencies capable of keeping pace with environmental and digital transformations and enhancing economic cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
