Guerguerat crossingThe Embassy of the United States of America in Morocco announced that a delegation from the American mission visited the Guerguerat border crossing, in the first visit of its kind to this strategic crossing linking Morocco and Mauritania.
The embassy confirmed, in an official publication, that the visit comes within the framework of strengthening bilateral cooperation and a shared commitment to regional security, noting that Guerguerat is the only border crossing between Morocco and Mauritania.
During the visit, representatives of the American mission held meetings with Moroccan officials to discuss ways to develop cooperation in the fields of border security, combating human trafficking, and confronting drug smuggling networks, in addition to enhancing coordination between the various authorities concerned with security in the southern provinces of the Kingdom.
This visit is of particular importance given the strategic location of the Guerguerat crossing, which represents a major crossing point for trade exchange and transportation between Morocco and its African interior.
The American move reflects the level of coordination existing between Rabat and Washington on security and regional issues, especially with regard to securing borders and confronting threats associated with cross-border crime.
