Al-Qasr Al-Kabir regains its breath: expanding the return of residents with the continued closure of four neighborhoods and food supplies for affected families

Morocco – February 16, 2026

The local authorities in Larache Province announced, today, Monday, that residents of the city of Ksar El-Kebir will be allowed to return to the various neighborhoods of the city, as part of completing the orderly and safe return process for families who were temporarily evacuated due to the strong weather disturbances that the region witnessed recently, with the exception of four neighborhoods to which access will continue to be temporarily prohibited until the necessary preventive measures are completed.

An official statement from the local authorities explained that the postponement decision concerns the neighborhoods of Bassatine, the residential neighborhood of Cosumar, and the headquarters of the Regional Office for Agricultural Investment of the Second Administrative Annex, in addition to the Larache Road neighborhood of the Sixth Administrative Annex, pending the end of the technical interventions and precautionary measures related to ensuring safety conditions.

The same source confirmed that the expansion of the scope of neighborhoods to which return was permitted came as a result of improved weather conditions, in addition to the positive results of field interventions undertaken by various concerned departments to remove the effects of floods and rehabilitate damaged infrastructure, ensuring a smooth and safe return of residents.

The authorities appreciated the sense of responsibility and discipline shown by the residents of Qasr al-Kabir during the first stage of the evacuation and return process, calling on citizens to adhere to the directives of the competent authorities in order to ensure the success of this operation in the best conditions.

Food aid distribution begins

In a parallel context, the local authorities began, on Sunday evening, distributing food aid to the benefit of families who returned to their homes, within an integrated plan developed by the Larache province labor force to keep pace with the affected population and facilitate the gradual resumption of daily life.

The aid includes basic materials to meet the urgent needs of families, including six liters of milk, five liters of oil, five kilograms of sugar, ten kilograms of flour, five kilograms of rice, in addition to tea and salt. It is expected that the process will continue sequentially according to the pace of residents’ return to their neighborhoods.

This plan includes mobilizing appropriate logistical means, securing traffic routes, and providing field accompaniment to ensure that the operation proceeds in tight organizational conditions. The aid is also prepared within designated centers under the supervision of local authorities and with the contribution of authority agents and volunteers, before being transported to the relevant neighborhoods by trucks and utility vehicles.

In Al-Salam neighborhood, tricycles were adopted that are suitable for narrow alleys to ensure that aid is delivered directly to the homes of beneficiaries, in order to achieve effective and fair coverage.

A number of beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for this initiative, praising the rapid intervention of the authorities and the efforts made to mitigate the repercussions of this exceptional stage, at a time when some commercial and service activities have not fully regained their normal pattern.

These measures fall within a continuous mobilization of the various concerned authorities and interests, from the stage of evacuation and temporary shelter, all the way to organizing the return and accompanying the population towards gradually restoring normal conditions.
