A new rise in fuel prices in Morocco

At the beginning of this February, fuel prices in Morocco witnessed a new update, represented by limited increases in gasoline and premium gasoline, after the reductions that were adopted last January.

Professional sources reported that these increases amounted to about 35 centimes in the price of a liter of gasoline, compared to approximately 11 centimeters in the price of premium gasoline, with slight differences recorded between the various distribution companies according to the network of stations and distribution areas.

According to available data, this update falls within the periodic review of prices adopted by companies active in the fuel market, as the new prices began to be implemented at a number of gas stations since the first days of February.

This development comes after the last price review last January, which led to significant reductions of 65 cents in the price of gasoline and 44 cents in gasoline, before prices returned to rising again at the beginning of this month.

At the international level, oil prices recorded an increase of more than 5 percent during the recent period, reaching levels not recorded in more than four months, in light of geopolitical tensions linked to American statements regarding Iran, according to international reports.

With regard to the national market, the latest report of the Competition Council revealed that during the third quarter of last year, fuel distribution companies achieved an average profit margin of 1.48 dirhams per liter of gasoline and 2.10 dirhams per liter of gasoline.

The report also indicated an increase in gasoline imports by 12.4 percent during the same period, to reach about 1.91 million tons, with a total value of approximately 12.73 billion dirhams, compared to 1.70 million tons, worth 12.90 billion dirhams during the same period of the previous year.

The same source confirmed that gasoline remains the most consumed substance in the fuel market in the Kingdom, accounting for about 88 percent of total national imports and 87 percent of their value.

After this update, the price of a liter of gasoline exceeded the threshold of 10 dirhams at a number of gas stations, while the price of gasoline stabilized in a range ranging between 11 and 12 dirhams per liter, with limited differences from one distributor to another.
