The issue of the Malvin Islands, known in Britain as the Falkland Islands, is one of the most sensitive issues in relations between the two countries, as Argentina and Britain fought a war in 1982 that ended with London regaining control of the archipelago, while Buenos Aires still asserts its claim to sovereignty over it.

The United Nations classifies the islands as non-self-governing territories, and calls for continuing negotiations between the two parties to reach a peaceful solution to the conflict.
