Boston (USA)National voter Mohamed Wehbe confirmed that the Moroccan team will enter the match against France with the ambition of qualifying for the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup, stressing that the “Atlas Lions” will not be satisfied with what they have achieved so far, while it was officially announced that Ismail Saibari will be absent from the match due to injury.
Wehbe said, during the press conference that preceded the anticipated confrontation, that all players are fully prepared except for Ismail Sibari, explaining that the match comes early for his return, expressing his hope that he will be ready for the upcoming matches if the national team continues its journey in the tournament.
Saibari had suffered a hamstring injury during the match between Morocco and Canada in the 16-final match, after marking a distinguished participation in the tournament, during which he scored goals in the group stage, and also took the decisive penalty kick against the Netherlands in the round of 32.
Wehbe refused to consider reaching the quarter-finals a sufficient achievement, stressing that the group’s ambition goes beyond that, and said:“We definitely want to win tomorrow’s match, and we will not listen to anyone who says that leaving now does not matter.”
He added:“We will try to reach the semi-finals, and I don’t like the feeling that we have done enough and that anything extra is just a gain.”
The national voter sent a strong message to his players, calling on them to play the match with the utmost resolve and determination, saying:“We have to go into the match with 2000%, and play with knives between the teeth if necessary, so that we do not have any regrets after the final whistle.”
Wehbe stressed that the Moroccan team will fight until the last minute in order to achieve qualification, adding:“We will do everything to win, and we must play as if our back is against the wall.”
Regarding the technical aspect, the Atlas Lions coach explained that the Moroccan national team has the necessary capabilities to upset the French national team if its players succeed in being patient and exploiting the spaces, indicating that effectiveness in front of goal will be a decisive factor in determining the identity of the qualifier.
For his part, Moroccan international Ibrahim Diaz expressed his confidence in the national team’s ability to compete with the French team, despite it being considered one of the most prominent candidates to win the title, stressing that the “Atlas Lions” have proven since the start of the tournament their ability to compete with the strongest international teams.
The Moroccan national team will face its French counterpart, on Thursday evening, July 9, 2026, on the floor of Gillette Stadium in the city of Foxboro in the Boston area in the state of Massachusetts, starting at nine o’clock in the evening Moroccan time, for the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup finals, which will be held in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.
