According to US Central Command, the strikes aim to undermine Iran’s capabilities to threaten international navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, by targeting air defense systems, radars, and military infrastructure related to maritime operations, as part of a new round of ongoing attacks against Tehran.

The introduction of suicide drone boats is a remarkable development in the nature of American military operations, as Centcom confirmed that these combat vehicles were used for the first time alongside low-cost attack drones, in an indication of the escalating level of military and technological confrontation between the two parties.

This escalation comes in light of increasing tension over the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important strategic corridors for global energy transport, amid fears of the repercussions of the confrontation on trade movement and international oil markets.
