Tunisia summons the Turkish ambassador and denounces Erdogan’s statements regarding internal affairs

Tunisia – My Press

This week, the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the recall of the Turkish ambassador accredited to Tunisia, against the backdrop of statements by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan regarding the political situation in the country, which Tunisia considered interference in its internal affairs.

According to an official statement, the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs made a call to his Turkish counterpart, during which he informed him of Tunisia’s rejection of these statements, stressing his country’s commitment to respecting its sovereignty and the independence of its national decision.

The Tunisian Foreign Ministry stressed that bilateral relations must be based on the principle of mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs, stressing that the political path in Tunisia remains a sovereign matter decided exclusively by the Tunisian people.

Tunisia also expressed its surprise at the statements issued by the Turkish President, considering that they are not consistent with the nature of the relations between the two countries, nor with internationally established diplomatic norms.

These developments come after the Turkish President criticized internal political decisions in Tunisia, including the dissolution of Parliament, which the Tunisian authorities considered an unacceptable position that required official clarification through diplomatic channels.

This development reflects a circumstantial tension in relations between the two countries, awaiting the results of diplomatic contacts during the coming period.
