Trump threatens Iran again: agreement or end the mission

Washington –US President Donald Trump renewed his threat to Iran, stressing that the United States has only two options: either reaching an agreement with Tehran or “finishing the job,” in a new escalation that comes with continued tension between the two countries following a round of talks that did not achieve tangible progress.

Trump said, during statements to reporters in the Oval Office, that his administration prefers a diplomatic solution, but he stressed that the military option is still on the table, adding: “Either we reach an agreement or we finish the mission,” considering that implementing this option “will not be difficult.”

The US President added that the United States has the ability to target Iranian infrastructure, including bridges and energy supplies, noting that Iran is facing, as he put it, a financial crisis and that Washington has not provided it with any financial support.

Trump’s statements come after a round of indirect talks between the United States and Iran ended last week without announcing any progress towards a permanent agreement, despite the validity of a 60-day temporary ceasefire that was approved to pave the way for the diplomatic track following the recent military confrontations.

Relations between Washington and Tehran are witnessing a period of continuing tension, in light of the continued hard-line statements from both sides, while diplomatic efforts remain facing a new test to avoid additional escalation in the region.
