Washington/Tehran –The military confrontation between the United States and Iran witnessed an unprecedented escalation, after Tehran announced the implementation of missile and drone attacks targeting sites in a number of countries in the region, following American strikes that targeted infrastructure and bridges in southern Iran, and resulted in deaths and injuries, according to what was announced by Iranian official media.
The Iranian News Agency reported that the American strikes targeted several bridges and infrastructure facilities in the provinces of Hormozgan, Sistan and Baluchestan, killing 8 people and wounding 20 others, while the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that its operations targeted military and logistical sites with the aim of undermining Iranian military capabilities.
On the other hand, Iran announced the implementation of attacks targeting sites that it said were linked to the American forces in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Syria. The Jordanian army also announced the interception of three missiles, while the Qatari Ministry of Defense confirmed the interception of a missile attack targeting its territory, while the Qatari Ministry of Interior announced that a child was injured as a result of falling shrapnel resulting from the interceptions.
In Kuwait, the army announced that it had confronted missiles and drones, while the Kuwaiti authorities condemned the targeting of vital facilities, including an electricity and water desalination plant. Bahrain also announced the activation of sirens following drone attacks targeting sites linked to American forces, according to the Iranian account.
The developments extended to the Kurdistan region of Iraq, where deaths and injuries occurred as a result of attacks targeting sites of Iranian opposition parties, while Erbil was subjected to attacks by drones targeting sites containing American forces, without any casualties being announced.
These developments sparked Arab and regional condemnations, as Kuwait, the UAE, and Bahrain all condemned the Iranian attacks, describing them as a violation of the sovereignty of states and a threat to the security of the region, calling for an end to the escalation.
This escalation comes in light of the continuing military confrontation between Washington and Tehran, amid growing fears about the expansion of the conflict and its effects on the security of navigation and energy supplies in the Gulf region.
